Richard Mille Replica RM 055: BBR and APS Evidence
The RM 055 replica archive contains more specific construction claims than our RM 67-02 material, but it still does not support a simple winner. A BBR-labelled ceramic preorder from June 2022 and APS-labelled carbon-case reports from November 2024 concern different dates, materials and evidence conditions. This page makes those differences visible before comparing appearance or movement language.
Use the BBR versus APS article for a longer reading of the sources. The purpose of this model hub is to help you identify the correct comparison and ask questions that can be answered about an actual watch. We have not physically inspected either source’s specimen.
The genuine RM 055 reference
Richard Mille’s historical page dates the RM 055 Bubba Watson to 2012 and identifies RMUL2 as a manually wound movement displaying hours, minutes and seconds. The original white appearance does not mean the whole case is ceramic: the manufacturer describes an ATZ bezel with titanium middle and back components under a protective white rubber covering.
| Model / category | Case | Movement | Reference Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Genuine RM 055 Bubba Watson | ATZ bezel; titanium middle and back components with white rubber covering | RMUL2 manual winding | No current genuine offer asserted |
| BBR-labelled RM 055, June 2022 | Ceramic construction claimed in a preorder announcement | Integrated RMUL2-style construction claimed by the source | No verified current comparable quote |
| APS-labelled RM 055, November 2024 | Carbon-case configuration described in the reviewed reports | Dandong-labelled RMUL2-style V2 claim | No verified current comparable quote |
The genuine movement name establishes reference context. It does not authenticate an imitation with similar engraving. Nor does the brand’s discussion of shock resistance certify the performance of a replica. Performance needs evidence from the item being evaluated.
Three images, three clearly bounded claims

The BBR source is especially important for what it discloses: the author had not received a watch. The image and dimensions come from a preorder promotion, not that author’s measurement of a delivered sample. Its quoted 49.90 by 42.70 mm and 13.5 mm thickness therefore remain seller statements until independently checked.

The APS case photograph belongs to a November 2024 report describing a carbon configuration. Similar silhouette or a shared model number does not make it the same material comparison as a white ceramic listing. Composite pattern, colour and surface finish need consistent lighting before useful visual conclusions are possible.

The second APS report presents a claimed V2 movement change, including the shape of a mounting feature. A photograph can support a description of what is visible. It cannot by itself verify every alloy, the claimed origin of the movement, interchangeability with genuine parts or long-term stability. Those stronger assertions remain the source’s claims.
Factory comparison by evidence, not reputation
The following table records what the supplied material contributes for this reference. It is not a ranking of currently available production. The factory research guide gives the broader historical context.
| Factory | Model / version in the reviewed record | Useful evidence | Known gap | Current price range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BBR | RM 055 ceramic preorder, June 2022 | Dated announcement with an explicit no-sample disclosure | No delivered-sample test in that article | Not verified |
| APS | RM 055 carbon, claimed V2, November 2024 | Dated case and movement photographs | No matched BBR ceramic test or independent longevity record | Not verified |
| ZF | Mentioned as an alternative in the BBR article | Historical context for decorative-bridge constructions | The mention is not a current sample inspection | Not verified |
| KV | Mentioned as an alternative in the BBR article | A dated point of comparison in seller discussion | Current construction and origin remain unverified here | Not verified |
| UMI | No traceable RM 055 sample established by these sources | A question to investigate if used in a listing | Do not infer a production history from the name | Not verified |
There is an important difference between source-level comparison and watch-level testing. One author may describe several products without handling all of them. Several later sellers may repeat the same original wording. Repetition does not create independent confirmation. Track the earliest available claim and ask whether the new evidence actually adds an identifiable sample or measurement.
Compare case materials and operating functions
| Question | What useful evidence looks like | What is insufficient |
|---|---|---|
| Which components are ceramic or carbon? | Separate identification of bezel, middle and back, tied to the actual specimen | Calling the whole watch ceramic because it looks white |
| What movement is fitted? | A qualified identification plus a demonstration of winding and displayed functions | RMUL2 engraving alone |
| What changed in V2? | Dated images of identifiable old and revised samples with the changed feature explained | A version number pasted into an otherwise unchanged listing |
| Will it fit? | Full-case measurements, complete weight and strap dimensions with method stated | Reusing a genuine specification sheet |
| Can it be serviced? | A repairer able to identify the actual mechanism and obtain necessary parts | A promise that all genuine parts interchange |
Ask for consistent front, side and back photographs of the same watch before interpreting movement clips. If an operating feature is hidden under a decorative layer, a visible moving element may still leave the underlying architecture unresolved. Avoid requesting improvised disassembly from an unqualified handler; inspection should be performed by someone capable of protecting the watch and explaining the result.
For a material claim, keep appearance and composition separate. Surface texture can be compared from photographs, while composition needs stronger evidence. A seller’s use of a proprietary genuine-material name is not proof that the same supply or process was used. This publication has not performed a material analysis on these samples.
Price, care and service expectations
The archive does not supply a verified, comparable current replica offer for this page. We therefore do not invent a numerical price band. Any future comparison should record the currency, quote date, exact configuration, condition, accessories and service terms together. A genuine-market amount cannot serve as a replica quote.
A manually wound design also requires care specific to the actual fitted mechanism. Stop if winding behaviour changes or resistance is abnormal and consult an appropriate repairer. Do not assume that a genuine sports association establishes impact tolerance or water resistance for an imitation. The ownership and care guide discusses moisture, straps and service without a guaranteed lifespan.
Frequently asked questions
Is the original RM 055 case entirely ceramic?
No. The official historical reference describes an ATZ bezel and grade 5 titanium middle and back components with a protective white rubber covering.
Did the June 2022 BBR article test a delivered watch?
No. Its author explicitly described a preorder and said no sample had arrived. The construction and dimension statements were promotional claims.
Does the APS V2 report prove it is the best ceramic RM 055 replica?
No. The November 2024 APS reports concern a carbon-case configuration. They do not establish a matched comparison with the BBR ceramic preorder.
Does an RMUL2 inscription identify a genuine movement?
No. A copied name or bridge shape does not establish genuine origin, identical construction, interchangeable parts or serviceability.
